Marianne Skarbøvik
Designer exploring human experience through objects, relations, and culture.
Working at the intersection of design, craft, and spatial practice, I design, develop, and create furniture, objects, and environments that move between exploration and production, with each process informing the other. Reflecting on the challenges of making and consuming today, I approach material production with attention to emotional durability, cultural relevance, and the social narratives embedded in form and craft.
My practice is guided by a norm-critical perspective, exploring identity in relation to surrounding environments and the objects that shape our ways of living. Through experimental and often performative or situative work, I examine how cultural values are expressed, challenged, and reinterpreted through material and spatial gestures.
This research-based approach informs my collaboration with manufacturers and institutions to develop interior-related products and spatial concepts that invite reflection and foster new understandings of everyday life. Drawing on phenomenology and sustainability theory, my work explores how objects and spaces can cultivate emotional connection, sensory awareness, and critical reflection on the norms that shape our environments.
I aim to create furniture, objects, and spatial compositions that nurture meaningful, lasting relationships between people and their surroundings, while engaging with Norwegian craft traditions through a contemporary and reflective lens. My goal is to approach development projects with a forward-thinking and strategic mindset, where conceptual exploration and practical design processes evolve together.
